When the Powerball lottery jackpot climbs into the hundreds of millions, millions of Americans who rarely gamble buy a ticket. It's a big shared moment, and it's a good time to ask a simple question: how does the lottery compare with casino games?
This guide compares the Powerball lottery with three casino games that share its "draw and reveal" appeal: keno, scratch cards and slots. You'll see how they differ in speed, odds and play style, so you can choose what suits you.
Diamond Reels is not affiliated with Powerball or any state lottery and doesn't sell lottery tickets.

Powerball: The Long-Shot Dream
Powerball is all about the jackpot. Each $2 play picks 5 white balls from 69 and 1 red Powerball from 26, with draws three times a week. The jackpot odds are 1 in 292,201,338, which is exactly why the prize can grow past a billion dollars.
What players enjoy: the anticipation between buying a ticket and the draw, and the chance at a life-changing sum.
What to know: most tickets win nothing, and you wait days for each result. Read Powerball odds explained for the details.
Keno: The Lottery Game That Plays Fast
Keno is the casino game closest to the lottery. You pick numbers from 1 to 80, the game draws 20, and you're paid on how many you match.
The biggest difference is speed: online keno draws happen in seconds instead of three times a week. You also choose your own risk. Picking fewer numbers means more frequent, smaller wins; picking more means rarer, bigger ones.
| Numbers picked | Chance of hitting all of them |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 in 4 |
| 5 | About 1 in 1,551 |
| 10 | About 1 in 8.9 million |

Scratch Cards: Instant Win, Online

What players enjoy: no rules to learn and an instant result.
What to know: results are quick, so it's easy to play many cards in a short time. Keep an eye on your budget.
Good news if you're a new player: the CROWNJEWEL welcome bonus can be used on slots, keno and scratch cards. Check the full terms in the cashier before claiming.
Slots: Most Variety, Most Features
Slots offer the widest choice of themes and features, from free spins to Hold & Spin bonus rounds and progressive jackpots. If you like the idea of a growing jackpot, progressive jackpot slots work a lot like a lottery pool: a slice of each bet feeds the prize until someone wins.

FAQ
Is keno the same as the lottery?
They're similar. In both you pick numbers and win by matching a draw. Keno draws 20 numbers from 80 and plays in seconds online, while Powerball draws three times a week.
Can I play scratch cards online?
Yes. Diamond Reels offers online scratch cards that reveal results instantly.
Which has better odds, Powerball or keno?
It depends what you compare. Keno's top prizes are far easier to hit than the Powerball jackpot (about 1 in 8.9 million for a 10-spot versus 1 in 292.2 million), but its top prizes are also much smaller.
Are online casino games random like the lottery?
Yes. Licensed online casino games use random number generators, so every draw, card or spin is independent.
